Publications

Students in publications class are responsible for creating both the yearbook and school newspaper.  These students deserve major credit and praise for the hard work they do, the deadlines they endure, and the behind-the scenes work that goes into producing a historical record of the school year.

The Yearbook:  Our annual budget of approximately $16,000 is stretched to the max to give students the most bang for their buck.  Students can purchase a yearbook for $40 or they can purchase the deluxe package for $45 which includes the student’s name embossed on the book and a 16-page full-color “world yearbook” insert that chronicles major events and news throughout the year.  Those who purchase yearbooks late (December/January and in May/June) can purchase only the standard yearbook (without name and insert) for $45, so be sure to purchase your books early!

The Zephyr (Newspaper):  This (mostly) monthly newspaper is written for students and edited (in large part) by students.  The staff strives for a newspaper that is both informative and entertaining, touching on the issues that impact students and also touching on events in our city, country, nation, and world.  Here, students practice researching, interviewing, and writing skills, and put those ideas on public display in the form of a newspaper.  *The newspaper takes a backseat to yearbook, so depending on the size and experience of our staff, issues may not come out at the beginning of the year.  Over the course of a year we may produce as few as 3 or 4 issues or as many as 9 or 10.

Photography:  One of the favorite aspects of Publications is our focus on photography.  All year long, publications staff gather the images that mark the school year.  We study photo composition in an attempt to take the most interesting images possible that capture the true spirit of CCA.  We also solicit photos taken by parents and non-publications students, as we can’t be everywhere at once.  If you like to take photos and want to share them with the publications staff, please contact Mrs. Solsvik.

Business Advertising:  In an attempt to keep yearbook prices as low as possible, we solicit newspaper and yearbook advertising from local businesses to fill the gap that yearbook sales alone cannot fill.  Our advertising prices are significantly lower than most schools, so if you’d like to support our yearbook and put the word out for your business, please contact Mrs. Solsvik.
